Today I’m going to talk about what social media platform you should be using for your local business.
Nowadays, there are a lot of social media platforms out there. There’s Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Tiktok and YouTube and even other ones out there that you could be using for your business. Which one is the best platform for your business? This question is something you should be asking yourself.
Obviously, if you have the time you should be on as many social media platforms as you can. But in reality, if you’re a business owner, you really don’t have that much time to be on all the platforms and posting all the time. So, the best thing you can do for your business is find one platform and become an expert in that platform for your business.
Define the best platform for your business. You have to look, do some research and look into the different platforms that are out there because some of them might not be good for you. For example, if you’re a dentist, maybe Pinterest, wouldn’t be a good platform for you. If you’re a florist, maybe Facebook may not be good for you. Or if you’re a photographer, maybe LinkedIn might not be for you. It’s just an example. Obviously, LinkedIn is a good place to be if you have any type of business, because it is business oriented. That’s just an example. You just want to find what platform not only is good for your business, but that you also enjoy using. If you’re more of a visual person, Instagram, Tiktok or YouTube are a better place for your business. And you might have more fun being on those platforms than being on Facebook or LinkedIn or Twitter. Just find out which ones are good for your business, your industry, and which ones you enjoy using because if you enjoy using it, then you’ll use it more often. And remember we’re just selecting one, so you don’t have to post on all of them. Become the master of that one platform and use that to grow your business.
The the third thing to find what platform works for you. Find a business that is similar to yours that is actually using the platform and that they are successful. So when you find them, see what hashtags are using, what type of content they’re posting and do the same. Not saying copy of the exact post, but put it in your style or in your business’s voice.
The fourth thing is really put it in your schedule to work on social media just like how you schedule meetings. This will be something you’ll schedule. So, schedule a meeting for you to do social media for an hour. And that’s not just doing research, but learning about what other businesses are doing. Create new posts, create three or four posts for that week or however many times you post and utilizing what these platforms have for you. Schedule a block in your calendar to work on social media. It could be 30 minutes. It could be an hour. It could be 15 minutes, however much time you have, but you need to schedule it into your calendar so that you note that you have to do these tasks.
Going back to the beginning is picking one platform. The second thing is doing your research on what is the best place or what platform is the best place for your business. Third thing, finding another business that is similar to yours, that is killing it on that platform and copy what they do. Not copy, but remember put it in your own branding and in your own business’s voice. And the fourth thing, schedule it in your calendar so you know what to work on social media. Because if it’s not scheduled or if you don’t have it set as a meeting like how you meet your clients, then you’ll never do it. So, schedule it in your calendar and get it done.
