If you own a business or thinking about starting a business, you should have a business email address. When I talk about a business email address, I’m talking about an email that is dedicated to your business and has your business name in the address.
If you need another example here is the DigiWEI email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
A business email address makes your business look legit in my opinion. Whenever I see someone give me a business card or some tells me their business email address and has @gmail.com, @yahoo.com, or @hotmail.com at the end of it, it doesn’t look like a legit business.
Here an example of some email address I see: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
A business email isn’t hard to get and it’s not expensive. Here are a few ways for you to get a business email address:
- If you have a website already, your hosting company should already provide the service for you. You just have to set it up. Check with your hosting company (Hostgator, Bluehost, Dreamhost, etc). You can always forward those emails to your personal email.
- Google G-Suite – it’s pretty easy to set up and the interface is just like Gmail. We use this at DigiWEI and don’t run into any issues.
- Microsoft – Office 365 offers all your business solutions online/ in the cloud. If you like Outlook, Office 365 is the way to go, not only do you get email but calendar and cloud storage.
These are the 3 main options when it comes to getting a business email address. I’ve used the hosting email platform and it works and it’s not the greatest but it’s something. I personally like G-Suites because I am familiar with G-mail and I can be logged into my personal and business account on one screen and it’s easy to switch over from personal to business. I’ve used Outlook when I was working in the corporate world and it was okay. If you are coming from a company that uses outlook, this might be the route for you. This brings up one of the hardest questions and that is which is better, Google G-Suites or Office 365. The answer is preference and how your company is planning to grow and operate in the future.
Going back to why you should have a business email… because it looks professional, gives you legitimacy and you will need one when you grow your business.
I forgot to mention that some social sites do not let you create a business page if you don’t have a business email.
