Should you use Yelp or Google My Business for your Local Business?
In this video, we go over some of the Pros & Cons of Yelp and Google My Business (GMB). They both are really good platforms and can give your business some free exposure if you set them up properly. They both let customers leave reviews for your business so it’s important for a business owner to be able to monitor all the reviews that go up on these platforms.
Yelp is an online directory for businesses similar to the Yellow Pages back in the day. They also offer reviews, some tips, pictures and information about a business. People can take photos of a product or service and post it on the business page. Yelp has about 150 million unique visits a month. That’s the number of people that go to Yelp site or its app each month. That’s a lot of people using the platform to find services. When people go to the site, they are usually ready to purchase or be a customer. Sometimes they are also on the site to do research.
Reviews undergo a strict process so a new user can’t just leave a review and show up on Yelp.
It also has two apps – one for business and one for the users.
Some cons are:
- Paid Ads can be very pricey.
- A legitimate customer who has never left a review before leaves a review, it can be filtered.
- Your business can be put on Yelp even if you don’t want to be there or without you knowing it.
Google My Business has Google Maps. If you’re showing on Google Maps, that means people can find your business on Maps app or on Google. Your business can also show up on Google search results which is a good thing because billions of people use Google.
You can also start creating posts on Google My Business and use it like a social media to promote your product or service.
People with Gmail account can easily leave a review for your business.
Some cons are:
- It can be hard to find for customers to leave a review.
- It’s hard to transfer ownership of profile to yourself if someone already claimed it.
